But when the presence of bad bacteria and pathogens in the small intestines are out of proportion and control, it forces the multiplication of zonulin.

The downside is that overproduction and oversupply of zonulin will widen the tight junctions between the cells beyond what is normal thereby opening the floodgates to both marauding pathogens and beneficial nutrients into the bloodstream. This is certainly harmful and destructive to the body in the long run.
